About Me

With over a decade of immersive experience in equity-focused roles, I've dedicated my professional journey to advocating for marginalized communities often sidelined by conventional systems. From empowering youth in foster care to championing the rights of the disabled community, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible (IDEA) initiatives.

Grounded in a Master's of Arts in Social Justice and Human Rights from Arizona State University, my path is marked by an unwavering commitment to challenging norms and fostering authentic change. Continuously pushing the boundaries of understanding through published articles and relentless self-reflection, I recognize the indispensable role of honesty, transparency, and compassion in guiding my clients toward their IDEA goals.

As a fourth-generation Mexican-American on my maternal side and first-generation on my paternal side, I bring a richly nuanced perspective shaped by navigating the complexities of intersectional identities. From generations of assimilation to firsthand experiences of immigration, I intimately understand the intricacies that influence career progression, personal growth, and workplace dynamics. It's this profound understanding that drives my passion for facilitating candid, collaborative discussions around inequities, power dynamics, and cultural competencies—firmly believing that genuine solutions stem from collective effort and authentic investment in the journey.

Currently, I'm pursuing my Doctorate of Education at Northeastern University, where my research centers on the transition from compliance-based to socially just approaches in disability support services. This work underscores my commitment to reshaping the landscape of accessibility, advocating for a universal and equitable approach that extends beyond individuals with disabilities to encompass broader social justice principles.

Through my consulting endeavors, I leverage this expertise to foster environments where accessibility is not merely a checkbox but a fundamental pillar of inclusivity. By integrating a social justice lens into every aspect of my practice, I aim to catalyze systemic change, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or ability, has equitable access to opportunities and resources.

“Step into my office”

"... those were the words of my maternal great-great Aunt Juanita, a beacon of wisdom and warmth whose influence continues to resonate in every facet of my life. She would always be sure to let everyone know that two "greats" were attached to her name because she was just so great. She was more than a relative; she was a guiding force.

Aunt Juanita's "office" wasn't a literal room; it was wherever our conversations took us. Whether it was a casual stroll around the block, a spontaneous drive, or just a slight sidestep from wherever we stood, her invitation signaled an opportunity for a private exchange—be it serious or humorous.

She never shied away from difficult conversations, nor did she ever brush aside my relentless barrage of probing questions, no matter how complex or weighty they seemed. Long before I even grasped the concepts of race, ethnicity, or social justice, Aunt Juanita engaged with me, patiently unraveling the mysteries of the world and empowering me to think critically about issues of diversity, inclusion, and community.

But Aunt Juanita was more than just a conversational companion; she was our steadfast supporter in every endeavor. Whether cheering loudly from the sidelines at sporting events, beaming proudly at dance performances, or offering solace during tough times, her unwavering presence filled our lives with love and encouragement.

A trailblazer in her own right, Aunt Juanita defied societal norms with her boldness and resilience. From traversing the country solo to mastering the skies as a pilot, she embodied the spirit of adventure and fearlessness. Her legacy of courage, compassion, and inclusivity lives on in every "Juanitaisms" she shared and in every lesson she imparted. Though Aunt Juanita left us in August 2013, her humor, wisdom, and indomitable spirit remain ever-present.

In homage to her wisdom and guidance, I named my consulting firm "Step Into My Office." It's a tribute to her inclusive spirit and her belief that meaningful conversations can happen anywhere, anytime. Just as Aunt Juanita made her office wherever we stood, I'm here to accompany you on your journey, facilitating those difficult discussions and guiding you toward your goals with empathy and understanding.
